Shishu Bikash Kendra (SBK) was envisioned in 1977 by Father Akijiro Ooki, a Japanese Catholic priest of the Jesuit order. At the request of Pokhara's Chief District Officer, he established this specialized daycare and education centre to empower children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Guided by the compassionate teachings of Jesus Christ, Shishu Bikash Kendra envisions a society that fully values and empowers "Special Children" with developmental challenges, such as Autism, Down Syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy, to reach their highest potential and live with dignity, independence, and joy.
